From creating teams to finding and developing new media market opportunities, you’ll gain the skills and confidence you need to make your mark on one the world’s fastest-changing industries … leading the media from the front.

Here’s a taste of what’s in store from course leader and globally-respected broadcasting chief Clive Jones …

This four-week course will bring you together with some of the media’s most inspirational leaders, including:

  • Greg Dyke – Charismatic and innovative former Director of the BBC and one of television’s most talked-about executives.
  • David Mannion – Editor-in-Chief, ITV News. He has overall editorial, managerial and financial control of ITV’s Network News plus editorial oversee of ITV Regional News in England and Wales. He has been Editor of ITV News, GMTV and two of ITV’s flagship programmes, Tonight and the Cook Report.
  • Peter Bazalgette – Media consultant specialising in television and digital entertainment. He is non-Executive Chairman of two of Sony’s television divisions in the UK and has personally devised several internationally- successful TV formats, such as Ready Steady Cook and Changing Rooms. He also brought Big Brother to the UK.
  • Vikki Heywood – Executive Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company.  Prior to this, Vikki was Joint Chief Executive of the Royal Court Theatre, the country’s foremost theatre for the development of new writing.  During that time she was responsible for overseeing the £20m redevelopment of that theatre and producing over 100 world premier productions in London and on Broadway.

These executives span traditional and new media and know what it takes to innovate, change  … and succeed. They’ll challenge you to think creatively about the future of the media and find answers to some of the big questions.

But you’ll also need the right personal qualities to steer your organisation to success. And you’ll learn how to inspire, motivate and lead people with broadcasting consultant and trainer Lyn Hartman, and Clive Jones, visiting Professor at the School of Journalism, the University of Cardiff and Chairman of GMTV.

About the course leaders

Clive JonesClive Jones has been at the heart of the British broadcasting industry for most of his working life, during which he has occupied most of the senior jobs in ITV and led two of its most successful companies, Central and Carlton. He is chairman of GMTV, Britain’s most popuplar breakfast TV station.

Clive sits on the board of the National Film and Television School and the Young Vic Theatre. He is Chairman of Skillset (the skills council for the creative media), Chairman of Netplay (the interactive television company) and Chairman of Energetic Communications (the New York marketing and events company). He is also a Trustee of the Legacy Trust (the charity with a key role in supporting the cultural and sporting legacy of the 2012 Olympics across of the UK), Runnymede (Britain’s leading diversity think tank) and the ITV pension fund.

Clive trained as a journalist with the Yorkshire Post newspaper after graduating from the London School of Economics. He stepped down from ITV two years ago, although he continues to chair two television companies and is the only non-executive director of the Welsh public services broadcaster SC4.

Lyn HartmanLyn Hartman is a senior consultant and trainer with the Thomson Foundation. She has worked in 12 countries and is highly regarded as a ‘trainer of trainers’.

She began her career in BBC Radio and, after several years as a programme producer, moved into the BBC’s training department to devise and develop inspirational courses.

Lyn also helped BBC Radio in the move from analogue to digital production and developed successful internal communication techniques at a time of major change.
