Thomson Foundation 12 Week Broadcast Course in the UK
Course Overview Practical, intensive, realistic and active.
The emphasis is on news and current affairs broadcasting. Participants study modern techniques and developments, and investigate the problems facing journalists through discussion with British experts and fellow professionals from other countries.
Professionals with vast experience of news, current affairs and documentary broadcasting, mostly with the BBC and ITV, drive the course.
Participants learn to use up-to-date editorial computer systems to write their stories and develop bulletins.
Fundamental skills such as writing, interviewing and presentation are central to the syllabus.
The course also includes modules on key issues of the day such as the environment, business and health. Participants will also attend a one-day course on survival in a hostile environment run by ex-British army soldiers and medics. The course is based in Cardiff, capital of Wales but expect to travel too. Participants will spend one week at a BBC or ITV regional station for observation and for work experience. All participants share in the production of current affairs programmes in Cardiff.
