The European Union (EU)

The EU has been one of the Foundation’s biggest funding organisations, backing Thomson projects on key global issues. Recent projects include an EU-India documentary initiative on joint social problems; an EU awareness campaign among 13 Middle Eastern countries; and an HIV/Aids programme bringing together journalists and NGOs to promote better understanding.

The British Council:

The Council supports the Foundation by funding a range of journalistic skills workshops in many countries and through the Chevening Scholarships scheme, bringing overseas journalists to Thomson courses in UK. Among recent mainstream programmes is the three-year MediaNet project in Vietnam training print and broadcast journalists to improve coverage of major issues affecting the country.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)


The (FCO) has collaborated with the Foundation in a variety of media support projects during the past 10 years. In 2006 alone work has included: a course for Iraqi Journalists from Basra; conflict resolution workshops for journalists, broadcasters and academics on both sides of the Kashmir Crisis; and editorial workshops in India and Malaysia..

The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OCSE)

As the world’s largest regional security organisation, OSCE has joined with the Foundation in launching communications and media restructuring projects throughout Europe. Recent projects include the restructuring of Macedonian TV and Radio to prepare for it to become a public service broadcaster, conflict resolution in Georgia and Osettia, and political reporting in Serbia.

The UK Department for International Development (DFID)

DFID has supported Thomson projects in many parts of the world, helping to create new radio networks, empowering television journalists and expanding community newspapers. Among major programmes in the past six years are a media construction project in Sierra Leone after the Civil War and the establishment of a school of broadcast journalism in the Ukraine.

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)

UNESCO has worked with the Foundation to generate more effective and efficient mass communication during the past 10 years. With their help, the Foundation has run HIV/Aids workshops in several countries and produced media hand books, including a guide to the internet for journalists and an interactive manual on Sustainable Development.
