The Thomson Foundation 12 week UK based Courses
We also run three annual ‘summer’ courses in the UK – one for broadcast journalists, one for print journalists and one for documentary film makers.
These 12-week courses take place every year from June to September. Journalists from all over the world participate to improve their skills and broaden their professional knowledge and experience.
Details of the 2009 Summer Courses will be posted on this website soon, together with online application forms and details of how to apply.
As applicants you will be broadcast, print or online journalists with a minimum of 3 years journalism experience. You should be, in your sponsor's opinion, potential executive material and suitable for promotion - if not already in a responsible position.
Employers must support your application if they are not your sponsor.
You will be over 24 years of age and be able to speak and write English with ease.
DIPLOMA
At the end of the 12 weeks, Thomson Foundation Diploma certificates will be awarded to participants who have consistently shown an aptitude in:
- Journalism skills (contributing ideas, research, story-telling, recognising the importance of words/pictures/sound, writing, reporting, interviewing, creativity)
- Editorial skills
- Technical ability and awareness
- Competence in production processes
To receive the Diploma, participants also need to show:
- Commitment to the course (demonstrated by good punctuality and attendance, meeting deadlines as appropriate)
- Ability to work in a team.
