Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD): Set up by the United Nations in 1977 and aimed at generating a vibrant media environment in the Asia-Pacific region. Since it was established, more than 23,000 broadcasters have benefited from seminars, courses and workshops in a range of media issues.
Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU): One of the oldest Arab joint action initiatives, which aims to promote strategic relationships between Arab world countries. It has more than 20 active nations involved in sharing skills and knowledge of the broadcasting world in a series of training and consultancy programmes.
Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA): Founded by public service broadcasters throughout the commonwealth to foster the concept of public service broadcasting. It runs training sessions and consultancies to improve skills and understanding, and has a prestigious annual awards scheme.
Cardiff University School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies (JOMEC): One of Britain’s top three media schools, renowned for its teaching and research. The school has undergraduate, postgraduate and masters qualifications in print and broadcast journalism and has comprehensive international media links.
CIRCOM regional: A unique network of 376 public regional television stations throughout Europe aimed at contributing to the development of regional cultures and activities. It shares ideas, personnel and equipment between 38 countries and is also involved in skills training and programme sharing.
European Journalism Centre (EJC): An independent, international, non-profit institute dedicated to the highest standards in journalism, through training journalists and media professionals. Building on its extensive international network, the Centre operates as a facilitator and partner in a wide variety of training projects, particularly in a European context.
Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa: One of the world’s leading media schools of learning. Students from all over Africa come to study the University’s range of courses on all aspects of media production, and the school has built a major reputation for turning out the continent’s leading media professionals.
Xinhua: China’s state news agency, and the biggest distributor of information in the country. It has more than 7,000 staff writing over 400,000 words a day in press releases sent out in seven languages. The agency also has branches in more than 100 countries.
