The foundation’s goal is to help every type of media to strive for excellence and to improve public engagement.
We believe that journalists and the media play a vital role in good governance, holding governments and commercial entities to account in the public interest. Mass communication and the free-flow of accurate information via the media also helps to promote social and economic development.
- In countries where there is no free press or democratic government, we work with media organisations over a long period, helping to demonstrate the value and power of balanced, fair journalism.
- All requests for help are considered on a case-by-case basis. However, we will not advise any news organisation, government or individual if we believe their motivation is to support a case for war, aggression, persecution or corruption.
- The Thomson Foundation is entirely independent of any government or political affiliation.
