Intermediate Television Production

Course summary

This online course, involving at least two hours study each week over six weeks, will help prepare working television journalists for the next steps in their broadcasting career.

With stimulating modules including connecting with your audience, the changing face of 24/7 TV, and the rise of new media, participants will undertake a series of assignments leading to the award of a completion certificate, if successful.

Participants will become actively engaged with other journalists through the course chat forum.

This course, run in association with the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, is free for CBA member organisations. A fee applies to non-members.

Who’s it for?

Participants for this course must be working Television journalists, reporters and producers, already actively involved in Television journalism with a minimum of five years experience. The exercises will be challenging and journalists must be willing to participate in the Discussion Forum on a weekly basis.

Additional information

This course will be delivered online and involve regular email exchanges as well as an active input in the course chat forum.

Successful applicants will be expected to spend approximately two hours per week studying the modules and carrying out various assignments.

Trainees who complete the course assignments satisfactorily will receive a completion certificate.

  • How television news has been affected by the 24 hour news agenda
  • Understanding your audience
  • Television writing skills
  • Advanced interview techniques
  • Deadlines, ethics and the growing importance of multi skilled ‘Video Journalists
  • Ethics and style guides
  • Citizen journalism, Social media and blogging

Course fees

Participation is free for Television Journalists working for CBA Member Organisations. Fees for non-members: From Developing countries: £250. From Developed countries: £500. Please note: Places for paying non members can only be confirmed on receipt of payment.
