A former news editor at the UK newspapers The Times and The Observer and editor of the Prague Post in the Czech Republic, Martin led the print side of the foundation's media capacity building project in Sudan.

A globally experienced trainer of press and news agency journalists, he is particularly keen to develop editorial management training –  bringing new concepts and techniques to the news editors and section heads who can drive change in the newsroom.

As a trainer he has created and run courses ranging from election coverage to ethics, investigative journalism to human rights reporting. Author of UNESCO's guide to the Internet, he has also developed and delivered programmes to train trainers and to guide government officials on handling relations with the media.
