Sustaining democratic media

Improving editorial content in the media was the focus of an EU-funded project run by Thomson Foundation in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. It was part of the EC Phare and TACIS Democracy Programme which looked to assist the process of democratisation in former Soviet Union states. Advertising and marketing were included in the training programme to improve the prospects for the commercial survival of free media.
