This six-month project was designed to support Cameroonian independent media houses in the run-up to the 2011 presidential elections.
Its overall aim was to create a cadre of trained journalism trainers, able to raise professional standards through in-house training, networking and best-practice dissemination. A two-week residential course was held for representatives from independent Cameroonian media houses. Topics covered during the first week included the responsibility of the media, ethics of conflict, international standards and freedom of expression. The second week focused on training the delegates to become trainers. In addition to leading the course, Thomson Foundation trainers acted as distance mentors to provide ongoing support for the group.
