Director of Innovation and Learning
Hosam is responsible for new products and services and is leading Thomson Foundation’s drive into e-learning. He also manages key partnerships, primarily in the Middle East.
Hosam is a holder of an Executive MBA from London’s CASS Business School and a practitioner of “Design Thinking” – a collaborative user-centric way of designing new products and services. Hosam manages Thomson Foundation’s flagship summer convergence course, and was an early leader in introducing teaching on mobile journalism. He also runs “Design Thinking” workshops in media entrepreneurship.
He joined the foundation from the video division of the Associated Press (AP) where he spent 15 years as a producer and manager, supporting international broadcasters with their news and current affairs coverage. At the AP, he was a producer in the field for a range of major stories in the Middle East, including the Arab spring in Cairo, Yasser Arafat’s funeral, and President Obama’s first election victory. He also managed key commercial relationships and the start-up of a TV news channel for an Arabic-language broadcaster.
In addition to his MBA, Hosam holds an MA in journalism from Westminster University and a BA in film and video from Middlebury College, USA. He speaks fluent English, Arabic, and Italian and has a good command of French and Spanish.
