Lord Fowler

Lord Fowler, the honourable Lord Speaker, became a trustee of the Thomson Foundation in 2003 and was chair of the board for five years from 2007 before becoming a patron.

He was a journalist for The Times newspaper in the 1960s before becoming an MP in the British parliament in 1970. 

He held various cabinet posts in prime minister Margaret Thatcher's government, including secretary of state for transport (1981), for health and social security (1981-1987) and for employment (1987-1990). He became a life peer in 2001.
