Nigel Baker

Chief Executive

Nigel Baker joined the Thomson Foundation in 2012 from the world's largest news agency, the Associated Press (AP), where he was vice president of business operations for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. He was a driving force in taking AP's international television wing, Associated Press Television News, from start-up to market leader.

David QUIN

Director of Development

David Quin is Director of Development at the Thomson Foundation and has over 12 years' experience of delivering media development projects globally. He developed, and was in charge of delivering, the 17-country production training programme under the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network project from 2007 to 2011 for the European Commission.

Bettina Peters

Senior Development Consultant

Bettina Peters is Senior Development Consultant at the Thomson Foundation, and a leader in journalism and media-management training in transition and developing countries. Her main areas of expertise are in media development policy and media capacity building at global level with particular experience in Eurasia, Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Lisa Bushart

Project Manager

Lisa Bushart brings eight years' experience in media and EU affairs. She joins the foundation after three years at the European Journalism Centre (EJC), where she organised media training events in countries such as Burkina Faso, Guatemala and Jordan. Prior to this, she worked for the foundation on the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network.

Hosam El Nagar

Director of Innovation and Learning

Hosam joined the foundation from the Associated Press (AP) news agency where he was editorial and assignment manager in the Middle Eastern Services department. He held a variety of other senior roles in the department and managed the production of coverage of large-scale events such as the Arab Spring in Cairo.

Hans Boutier

Head of Finance

Hans Boutier is in charge of all the finance, administration and IT infrastructure of the Thomson Foundation. He joined in 2015 after more than 15 years' experience in various finance functions in the service industry including classical music, marketing, advertising and design.

Helen Scott

Editorial Associate

Helen Scott is an experienced Thomson Foundation trainer, consultant and project manager working with journalists and media professionals all over the world. Most recently she has designed and is running a five-year media capacity building project in Sudan and is working on media regulation and freedom of expression in Thailand.

Deborah Kelly

Head of Training and Communications

Deborah is an experienced broadcast executive and educator with extensive international experience in training journalists and university students. She has more than 30 years' experience as a senior journalist and manager working for UK and International media organisations. She is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

Mark Webster

Strategic Communications Associate

Mark Webster is a specialist in media handling and strategic communications with extensive international lecturing and training experience. His 30-year career in journalism began in newspapers, including the Evening Standard and he became Africa and then industrial correspondent at the Financial Times.

Sara Loane

Communications Consultant

Sara has a decade of editorial, publishing and digital media experience. She works as an independent consultant for news broadcaster Al Jazeera English and as a freelance contributor to several notable architecture and art world publications.

Ana Penadés Vera

Planning Manager

Ana is responsible for planning and managing the implementation of Thomson Foundation training programmes and their logistics as well as liaising with clients, funders and consultants to help plan training courses. She has several years of project management experience and speaks fluent English, Spanish, Catalan and French.

Olena Sadovnik

Ukraine Project Coordinator

Olena is our Kyiv-based coordinator for media development project, 'Regional Voices: Strengthening Conflict Sensitive Journalism in Ukraine's Media' funded by the European Union. Prior to joining the Thomson Foundation, she worked for the OSCE and British Embassy in Kyiv on media freedom promotion and strengthening editorial independence.

Ulane Vaher

Administrator

Ulane supports the coordination and implementation of Thomson Foundation training programmes. She looks after international course participants and holds various administrative responsibilities. She is also the main point of contact within the foundation's head office.
