Thomson launches new learning App

Thomson’s highly regarded expert-led online learning courses are now easier to access on the go via our new App.

Available now on Google Play Store, the Journalism Now App makes learning more flexible with all of Thomson’s popular courses available. Users are able to switch seamlessly between the app and the Journalism Now website.

The focus remains on building core journalism and communication skills through interactive quizzes, exercises and scenarios with tips and advice from leading industry experts in courses such as:

  • Rethinking Disinformation: psychology, prebunking and other tactics to halt the spread
  • The Art of Storytelling - a three-part series on News Writing, Advanced Writing, News Analysis
  • African Stories: A guide for journalists on how to tell better stories about Africa
  • Environmental Journalism | Why local matters - a three-part series on the climate crisis - Sources, Storytelling, Safety
  • MEDIASAFE: a four-part series of bitesize courses on digital safety and security
  • AI in the newsroom: the ethical approach
  • For The Record: covering war and conflict

As with Thomson’s Journalism Now website, the app also allows learners to access courses in a number of languages including English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda and Ukrainian. They will also be able to earn certificates for any courses they complete.

“We know that our Journalism Now website is a highly valued resource for thousands of journalists, students and communicators,” says Deborah Kelly, Thomson’s Director of Training and Communications. “Many are already using their phones to learn with us, this new free app is designed to make that easier and enable them to switch seemlessly from one platform to another.”

The app is currently only available to Android users via the Google Play Store, but it will be coming soon to the Apple store for iOS users.
