Wajibika: Strengthening media capacity to enhance government accountability

Wajibika, meaning "to be accountable" in Swahili, is a programme designed to strengthen civic participation, access to information and the effectiveness of public service delivery. Wajibika’s impact will be tracked through three independent, publicly available composite indicators focused on political transformation, press freedom and governance.

In the programme, Thomson leads the strategy for enhancing media freedom and access to information, working closely with the Media Council of Tanzania. We are also supporting newsrooms in exploring innovative revenue diversification strategies, enabling them to build more sustainable and resilient business models.
